Rudolph & the Enneagram: Personality limiters & redeemers

In our Friday Crew, we went over how Rudolph had personality limiters placed on him by his peers. Then someone else comes along & was like, Nope! That “limiter” is actually an asset. Come with me…

So we’re going to do that here. This is a minimal, simplified edition of personality traits that are common for each Enneagram type - traits that end up being labeled as limiters when they’re not labeled & used the right way.

Remember that most character traits, when taken to the absolute extreme, are unhealthy. We’re living in the balance here.

Enneagram 1
Trait: Wanting to live by a moral & ethical standard
Limiting belief: I am judgmental and critical of those who are unlike me.
Freedom: I can be an example of integrity while knowing others are entitled to their own standards of living.

Enneagram 2
Trait: Wanting to help everyone & everything
Limiting belief: I’m not worth anything unless I’m helping someone or something.
Freedom: I have the gift of service; I can use that with confidence when the time is right.

Enneagram 3
Trait: Wanting to be in a constant state of accomplishing
Limiting belief: I am only worth however much of my to-do list I cross off.
Freedom: People enjoy me more than they enjoy my to-do list. I can put that puppy on the fridge & go be with my people.

Enneagram 4
Trait: Experiencing a full range of emotions for big & small things.
Limiting belief: I’m too sensitive.
Freedom: Everyone doesn’t have to be comfortable in their feelings for me to be comfortable in my feelings. I’m good.

Enneagram 5
Trait: Conserving energy
Limiting belief: I’m not as good or as cool as the others because I need more rest.
Freedom: Even Jesus rested. So did his father. I can, too.

Enneagram 6
Trait: Looking out for holes in the security blanket
Limiting belief: I am afraid of everything.
Freedom: Safety is a necessary human experience; I am good at being in charge of it.

Enneagram 7
Trait: Wanting everything to be an adventurous event
Limiting belief: I can’t go deep.
Freedom: The gift of fun I bring alleviates the hard, deep stuff, but I can dive in, too.

Enneagram 8
Trait:
Emotional bulldozing
Limiting belief: I am a tyrant who will destroy anyone & anything in my path.
Freedom: I am an advocate for justice & when the time calls for it, I can & will make a way.

Enneagram 9
Trait:
Peacemaking & peacekeeping
Limiting belief: I am a softie who can’t make up her mind or commit to anything.
Freedom: I can be — and am — an example of not making a mountain out of molehill.
